Hi, I chatted with Claudia about scheduling some intermediate weave classes on WEBEX.  I would just like to hear how you formatted the classes, your experience and what you would like to change.  How did you find the Web teaching as opposed to being present in a classroom?  I think this is a great opportunity for teachers and students but as weaving is a very hands on craft and the visual prompts are important, how have you logistically managed this using a computer webcam?

I look forward to hearing from you.

I can't really speak to your questions as I have yet to teach my first class.  What I'm supposing is that we need to keep the information to golden nuggets.  I agree that this is a great opportunity to reach new weavers.Liz

I'm trying to get a regular video camera to stream to my computer and then to webex.  I got hung up with an old operating system on my computer and not wanting to buy a new computer.  But I now have the next OS in hand and will continue to pursue my desire to have a portable camera connected to a USB port .  Next I want it connected wirelessly.  Are you listening geeks?

Part of the attraction, at least for me, of having a class from another's studio is seeing that workspace.  I can't tell you how many things I've learned from just seeing some one else's work organization/space.

So we are starting with the cameras built into the computer but ....

I checked out camera angles and views before starting each class to make sure they could see what they needed to. My classes so far have all been Rigid Heddle, so I used a small loom that I could pick up and hold in front of the camera if I needed to. I'd likely use a table loom for any traditional weaving, unless it was a class specific to using a floor loom.

It's hard to be successful if you or your students have unreliable internet connections or old software/cameras. Though you may think they don't need a camera, it's the student without one that runs into issues you can't fix without seeing what they've done wrong.

I also made a point of providing full notes on the same material covered in class so they could continue between classes (or after) with those to jog their memory -- my students remarked they liked that a lot.
