This is my new to me loom! :O) A Curtis Payton 1947, 4 harness 6 threadle. It came with a 15 dent reed. I would like to purchase a second reed that will allow me to use some bulky yarns. I was thinking a 8 dent? I plan to do rag rugs as well, would the 8 dent work well for that? Any suggestions as to where I might buy a reed? I am very, very new to weaving.  There are no weaving stores where I live. I will have to do mail order.

Thank you

I measured my reeds width and its 45.5 ". I am seeing 45" wide reeds online for sale but not 45.5" Does it matter if I go with a 45"?

When I asked where to buy one, I guess what I was looking for were places ya'll have found to be good to deal with.

Thank You

You can use any reed on any loom on which it will fit into the reed holder.   So, don't worry about 45" vs. 45.5".   The reeds can be much shorter, or much longer, as long as you can place them in the reed holder (beater).

warpology

I recently purchased a Stainless steel reed from Reedsweare on ebay that was sent very promply and he has a lot of sizes. No conection just a satisfied buyer!

These folks make some nice reeds. It wouldn't be a bad idea to post an "in search of" ad on here or on Ravelry's Warped Weavers Marketplace for a used one.

Also, I had a loom very similar to yours, and it was too light weight to do rag rugs well.

I bought all my reeds(stainless) from Joann@ GlimakraUSA(1-866-890-7314). Just call her and she will help you with the size or sizes you need.
