Hi! I got here early enough that there weren't any SCA groups yet, so I thought I'd start one.

I'm Baroness Elfreda atte Kingeswode, from the Kingdom of An Tir. I like to spin and weave and knit, although I've never met a fiber art that I didn't like, at least a little! Well, there is the issue that my sewing always lags behind my expectations.

I have 2 spinning wheels, a red oak Rick Reeves 24" saxony, and an Ashford Joy single treadle. Not terribly medieval, but I can't spin on a drop spindle for love nor money. I also have an 8 shaft Schacht floor loom that I love, even though it's been collecting dust and papers (there's not much of a flat surface, but I manage) for a few years now.

Looking forward to Weavolution becoming to weavers what Ravelry is for knitters...

Mistress Ilaine de Cameron of Ostgarde in the East here. I've been inactive for around ten years, but trying to keep tabs on the SCA and get back in one of these days. Meanwhile I'm quietly making stuff with string in whatever period takes my fancy.

Hi

I'm in Atlantia (Highland Foorde in Maryland) I'm just learning to spin on a wheel. I am also learning dying with natural materials. I have a four shaft floor loom and an 8 shaft baby wolf. I'm working on ta projects, and would appreciate pointers or resources:

I was asked to weave a very special shawl. I was thinking of doing something with spun patterns, where the design shows based on the different spin directions. I have some references and some ideas, but thoughts/suggestions here would be helpful...but on TOP of that, I was asked to include some design work. Like laurel leaves or something. I am not sure where to begin with that. I was thinking soumak, but know NOTHING about it. Thoughts? Suggestions? References?

 THANKS

Alessandra/Cheryl

Just plain Asa here....writing from the Barony of Osprey way down here in south Meridies.  I've been in-and-out of the SCA for a long time, and am beginning to be active again.  And I am always looking for ideas, inspiration, or a good swift kick in the butt to get me going.

I have done most of my weaving mundanely, but am interested in early period work as well.  I have 2 floor looms as well as an inkle and a card loom - and a sprang loom which I am just now learning how to use.

Hope this becomes an active site - can't wait!

I am Baroness Catherine Aimee Le Moyne, currently territorial baroness of the Roaring Wastes (SE Michigan) in the Midrealm. One of my protegees introduced me to spinning about 10 years ago, and I have an Ashford Traveler wheel.

I have always spun with the idea of weaving - that is, pretty fine - and a year or so ago I got access to a nice 22" 4-harness Harrisville loom, and wove my first 2.25 yards ever. I'm about to start my third major project on the loom, expected to be about 8 yards of natural white, warped in 2/18 merino, weft about 2 pounds of Blue Faced Leicester that I'm getting close to finishing spinning, in a diamond twill.

Hi,

I'm Gwendolen Wold, over in the Barony of SunDragon in Atenveldt. I've been spinning and weaving for several years now--long enough to realize just how much I really have to learn! Right now I've got some hand spun singles going onto the floor loom, a hand dyed inkle band half done on the inkle loom, a big batch of brown wool half spun up on the walking wheel, and plans for a many more projects than I have time for.

Slightly Warped,

Gwen

Greetings from Mistress Gudrun, Barony of Seagirt, Principality of Tir Righ, Kingdom of An Tir.

I began playing with the SCA in the year 13, and learned to spin at the 20th Year Celebration in Texas.  I haven't stopped spinning, but I have taken up weaving, and have all but stopped my activities with the SCA.  I still keep my fingers in, but with 2 spinning groups, one weaving group, a Guild, a drop-in night, various teaching opportunities (and aging parents within driving distance), my life no longer has time for SCA events.  I do however, belong to another group that does a week-long demonstration of 14thC England.  At those events, I construct a weavers' cottage and have all sorts of fibre stuff going on.

Hi, I'm Trey from Bellevue, Wa.  Always loved the SCA though I've never really been a member.  I just got into weaving.  I've finished the two projects laid out in the book I got to teach myself and am looking forward to starting in on the many ideas in my head.  I want to do period looking tapestrys with more science future or sci-fi themes.

Right now I'm working on a nail-frame loom I made myself.  Made a heddle bar between project one and two and it helped so much.  (think that's what it's called)  Planning on making a portable inkle loom soon and trying out tablet weaving.

I thought I'd check here to see if there's any weavers in my area.  Also curious if anyone has any thoughts on weaving cloth for period style leggings.  Early 1500's if that makes a difference.

Thanks and glad to see other weavers somewhere at least even if not locally.

Trey

Greetings

I’m Mistress Margherita la Tesserice, Barony of the Bright Hills, Kingdom of Atlantia.
I’ve been weaving for about 30 years and been in the SCA for almost as long.

I’m currently working on a baby blanket for my mundane boss. I’ve just started it, the pattern yarn is on order and the baby is due in 5 weeks. Wish me luck

I'm Ranvaig the Weaver in Tirnewydd, Middle Marches, Midrealm, otherwise known as Sharon Palmer in Columbus Ohio.  I've been an SCA member ever since we rode past a demo on the OSU oval on a bike ride with my son.  He was 4 then and is 25 now, so something like 21 years.  I don't do nearly as much weaving as my persona, but have a rigid heddle loom, an inkle loom, a demo loom for weaving pile rugs from a class I took.  Also have done card weaving and woven on a warp weighted loom.

I don't do as much weaving these days because of arthritis, but I started putting a warp on the inkle loom for my daughter with some silk she picked out at Pennsic.  She doesn't know it yet, but she gets to weave it herself. :)

I know that tartans aren’t period, but does anyone have a source for tartan setts. I’m looking for the earl of St Andrew tartan for a commission for my church.

St Andrew’s in College Park Maryland is looking for a stole made out of St Andrews tartan for the investiture of the new priest in September.

Can any one help me?

Hio Margh,

While what we can tartan's are post period, plaid most definitely are not.  I see I got on here to late to help you  with your project. But for future references,  there are a couple period pictures of cote-hardies,  parti- colored with one side being solid and the other is a plaid.

And this goes around my other weaving group periodically:
