I am warping my new-to-me Macomber 40 and am having trouble finding how and where to locate the lease sticks. Any suggestions will be most welcome.

Thanks,

Susie

We dress BTF and have the raddle right next to the heddles then the lease sticks. When the warp is wound on to the warp beam the raddle is removed. You then use the lease sticks as a guide when the heddles are being dressed.

To support the raddle and the lease sticks I made a support bar.

The raddle and lease sticks sitting on the support bars. The raddle is made to fit inside the castle. The support bars are bolted to the sides of the castle an stay on the loom at all times. They can fold up to close the loom.

I find it interesting that there are so many options in weaving. I have now seen the raddle in 3 places: on the back beam, on the beater bar and now yours, near the heddles. I like you idea of support bars. Thanks for taking the time to respond and post pictures - very helpful.

Just head to your local lumber yard and buy some solid wood trim pieces. the shortest most lumber yards sell is 7' for doors, windows. If you have a nice saw, just  cut the pieces to length, sand the edges, drill a hole in each end for the ties. You'll only need 2-4 pieces, get them the weaving width of your loom or make a couple different sizes for different warps. Perhaps one maximum weaving width and a set 1/2 that size for towels, scarves etc. .....check out 'Weaving Well and Warping a Loom' DVD's or downloads from Interweave and Madelyn VanderHoot........good instructional for the new weaver and the seasoned one. Good tips and hints.

If you''re handy with sandpaper, there's no reason to pay big $$ for small pieces of wood and a lot for shipping.

Just my 2 cents worth. elaine

Thanks for your comments. I have the lease sticks but was wondering about where to tie them to the loom. I have figured that one out but I'm curious about your recommendation of having a half length set for smaller projects - how would you tie that onto the loom?

I agree on making what you can. I have a beautiful warping board, cone holder and raddle all courtesy of my supportive husband.

If you tie them back near the beam, it makes the warp a nice even sheet while turning onto the warp roller. Just use the cord wrapped from the most forward stick to the loom frame. On my loom I am able to tie them to the back beam with button eye cord, helps with tension this way as the warp passes under the first stick and then the cross and over the next lease stick. I use two tied by the end holes to one another spaced the width of two fingers apart.

Like the Reed Guy say you could tie the lease sticks to the beam. I like my raddle and lease sticks floating, this way if I have a sticky warp the lease sticks will move. Some people just tie the raddle to the back beam and tie the lease sticks from the castle. Lots of ways to do the same thing.

There certainly are lots of ways and I appreciate the suggestions and will try until I find "my way".

This group is a great help. Thanks for managing it, Michael.
