These are so gorgeous.  I am a new weaver and this is what I

had pictured in my mind when I began weaving - exactly!!  Hope

some day I too can produce this beautiful treasure.

Ellen - these are lovely. The draft seems similar to the tencel scarf draft and is very effeective. They look very professional and will make lovely gifts !

Thank you very much! :-)

These are beautiful, Ellen!

That draft caught my eye, too. Since I have only 8 shafts I'd have to weave it in twill blocks or some other structure. Do you have any suggestions?  Also, did you cold mangle your towels?

So beautiful, so Scandinavian in design and material. Really love it. The straps make it complete. Well done, Ellen

I wove in Denmark at the school in Haderslev for four weeks in summer 2000. Visited Denmark again in 2001 with my husband for a five-week self-guided trip through Sweden, Norway and Denmark again. Lovely country. I'm a weary community college English composition teacher from Iowa on my first days of break from spring semester 2010. It is damp and cold in Iowa, just like it was in Denmark during the first week of my stay there in 2000. But I loved every minute of it, every minute of exploring Copenhagen (and the rest of Denmark on weekends) and then weaving every weekday for 8-12 hours. I was 44 then and still believed I could conquer the world. I bought a Glimakra, took more weaving lessons on it in Vermont and Massachusetts, and now it sits in pieces in my 80-year-old mother's basement because my granddaughter came to live with me full time -- and I had to give her the loom room. I would love to get away for a week of weaving somewhere later this summer. Love your towels. Neat site. Just discovered it by accident today. Looks like you were able to get a lot of weaving done this winter. I could, too, if I had someone to help me warp. I've never loved warping the loom. But as my Danish weaving teacher said that wonderful summer 10 years ago, "Anyone can weave, but not anyone can warp." I admire your projects.  Rose :)

Where would you recommend going to study weaving in Denmark? Any special summer school programs?  Rose:)

http://www.skalshaandarbejdsskole.dk/kortkurs/hjmenu/for.10/for.10.1.html is in Denmark, and was recommended on the Scandinavian Weavers forum. You might look into that.  Also at Sätergläntan-- http://www.saterglantan.se/kortakurser_en.php?kurs=21  I've taken Ingrid's class and it was very good, this one is in Sweden. Swedes under about 50 or 60 are pretty good with English, I don't know about Danes.  Just in case that is an issue.

Hi Rose,

Thank you for sharing your memories of your visit many years ago. And thanks to ingamarie for answering when I was not there to do so myself. I have been away again (do it all the time, especially in the summer)

I would agree that Skals would be your best bet. A shame, but there are fewer and fewer places that do weaving in Denmark nowadays.

I feel so bad for your poor lovely Glimakra having to stay put for the time being, hope it will crawl back up to better times some day.

Of course you could alway come and visit me at my weaving paradise on the west coast, if you'd like that. I have made several friends here in the virtual weaving world that are fast becoming "real" friends, I am looking forward to meeting several of them this summer.

Absolutely BEAUTIFUL!!   Everything about them is great.  I will have to settle for something close on an 8 shaft, but it was like you were reading my mind when I was thinking of towels I would like to make!!

Ellen (not verified)

I am glad that my guess was right. And I agree that they are beautiful on 8 shafts too, so I hope you'll do them and post them for us to see.

Notes

The draft is from the Swedish book Vävglädje från Vävmagasinet.

I had been wanting to do them for a long time, and they came out quite nice.

The straps are woven on an inkle loom with a slightly coarser linen
