I'm finding that DMC embroidery floss does a brilliant job as weft and I'm thinking that I would like to work with floss in my tapestry. I'm using linen as the warp and the embroidery floss covers so well and smoothly and looks quite pretty. I also like that there is a huge range of color and it is relatively inexpensive. However, I am concerned that over time there could be a problem with lightfastness. I don't know that it would, but I want to be sure before I proceed with any large projects.

Have any of you worked with floss or Perle Cotton and how did it hold up in your tapestries?

Thanks for any input you may have!    ~Pam~

Within a particular yarn type and brand there will be variance in lightfastness. If you want to test, put a note card wrapped with the yarn to be tested in a sunny window. After a few weeks, look at the front and back of the card to see if there are any changes in the colorl.

All dye will fade over time - I'm careful to hang my tapestries where they will not be exposed to direct sunlight for that reason.
