Notes

I used the 22/1 linen doubled in the heddles and sett at 30 ends per inch and wove 5 towels. I used the singles linen weft doubled on the bobbin and tried everything to get it to wind on evenly so that it didn't leave little loops at the selvedge. I even spun some of it together and then wound it on the bobbin! ( It really didn't help that much!) I decided to sew a narrow hem along the selvedge to turn under the loops on that unhappy pair of towels, and switched to a two ply bleached linen. I wandered off the treadling on the third towel( the right in the photo); it has an apparent plain weave on the back instead of warp skips. and the texture is less pronounced. I also discovered when I soaked them in Euculan that they retained a bit of the firmness of linen instead of becoming all soft- I think that will be nice when they are gifts that the recipient will feel the crispness of linen.
