HI, I'M A NEW WEAVER WANT TO BE... SELF TAUGH DUE TO WHERE I LIVE. I HAVE 2 QUESTIONS FOR WHICH I CAN NOT FIND AN ANSWER IN ANY BOOK NOR DVD! 1) AS I THREAD MY REED FRONT TO BACK, DO I LET GO OF THE CROSS? 2) IF I HAVE 2 THREADS PER DENT DOES IT MATTER WHICH COMES FIRST ON THE HEDDLE (ASSUMING ALL IS WELL ON THE REED). THESE 2 ARE DRIVING ME CRAZY! PLEASE HELP!

There is a class here on Weavolution about how to warp front to back.   I'm sure that would answer all of your questions, and they aren't very expensive.   You can find the classes on the "Classes" tap up at top of the page.

To answer your immediate questions.  Yes, let go of the cross once you have the reed sleyed.  To make sure the threads do not fall out before you get to threading them, tie into small (about 1") bundles with a slip knot.  Just pick one thread at a time to thread into the heddles.  It doesn't matter which of the two threads you pick.

You might find some video clips on You Tube helpful.  Here's mine:

It would not matter, as has been advised to you, which of 2 warp threads in a dent to thread next EXCEPT when there is a color sequence that must be maintained. I'm about to start such a project that has an 8-thread sequence before it starts again, and I'll have to be very careful about which of those 2 threads in the dent that I thread in its heddle first and which one next! Laura's advice about You Tube is also excellent!

Happy Threading!
