I just purchased a 15+ year old Schacht loom and stand.  The loom was assembled and I put it on the stand based on photos and directions on the Schacht website.

I cannot tell if the heddle block is on correctly or not.  Here is a photo:

It looks like it may have been put on upside down.  Anyone familiar with this loom?

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Anyone own this loom?  I bought it like this but not certain it was put together correctly.

I don't have one of these but was hoping there was something on the Schacht site that could help you.  They do have the manual for it still but from the way it is worded it sounded like the heddle holders were placed on the loom at the factory.

I do agree they look like they have been put on upside down and from photos (which I can't find now) that is probably a good assumption.

What you may want to do is email Schacht a photo and ask them.  They are very good about answering questions about any of their products.

It's correct Claudia. I have 2 sitting here. My screws are actually on the outside of the frame rather than the inside but that won't make a difference.

Thanks.  I looked through the Schacht site, too and couldn't tell anything from the pictures.  I have a newer (still old) one and they changed the heddle block slightly and it works fine.  Well, it's getting warped up today so I'll keep you posted on how it works.

I really appreciate the help.  Good to know there are other looms like this one still in use.  It's a solid,well-made loom.  I'm glad it doesn't fold, I find the tension is lost when you fold either the Kromski or the Glimakra so once I have a warp on, I don't fold them.

Thanks to both of you for the help.  It was kind of you, SpindleDreams, to go to the Schacht site for me and look around.  And, ALittleBird, I took the photo from the inside of the loom that's why the screws look different.

I have the loom warped an now I am having trouble figuring  where to put the heddle to get the sheds.  If I try to balance the heddle on top fo the block for the up shed, I have to hold it with one hand while it's up there.  And, when the warp threads are firm enough to get a decent shed, I am unable to get the heddle into the upside down U shaped space.

I am seriously considering taking the heddle block off and turning it up the other way.  I'm hoping ALittleBird has some suggestions.

I took shed pictures and here is what I have:

This is the down shed where the slot threads go up.  Nice shed.

I have a clear shed with the hole threads in the up position but I have to hold the heddle up there with one hand while I put the shuttle through with the other.  I tried turning the heddle the other way and it doesn't fit between the heddle blocks. It clearly needs to have the longest rod across the top.

What do you think?

Is the heddle a Schacht heddle? It looks like a Beka one that has a longer bar on the one side of the heddle.  Changing the position of the heddle brackets won't solve the problem if the problem is that one of the bars is too narrow to catch or balance.  Looks like you need extensions for that bar at the at the bottom, if both bars above and below the heddle were  the same width would it work?

I believe it's a Schacht because it looks just like the 25" Schacht I own.  On the wider Schacht, the heddle holder is different and for the up shed it sits nicely on the top of the heddle bracket.

TIme to call Schacht I think.

Thanks Karren.

Been fixing up looms myself this week.  I hope you get it working!
