Hi all!

First of all to say hi and introduce myself. My name is Boriana (22 from Bulgaria) and i literally started learning how to weave yesterday :) I have a four heddle bar tapestry loom and so far i have leared how to warp it and do a plain weave. The next thing i got into was reading drafts. I get the general idea about treading, treadling and liftplan and here comes my puzzle. I saw this draft on handweaving.net and thought it was simple enough for me to try. But guess what - i'm stuck. How do i lift the same heddle twice in a row???

I tied according to the treading but all i get is nothing.... i really can't get what am i doing wrong... Any help will be really appreciated! Thanks in advance!

Could you tell us the draft #? If we see it maybe we can figure it out?

Here's a link to it. I had it added as a photo but i see it doesn't work for some reason. Sorry for that. The ID is #2172

It means either that you should do two picks in the same shed (either use two shuttles or go around the outer warp end for the second pick), or it can mean you should use one thin weft and one thick.

Before weaving software could show different thicknesses this was how (for instance) warp rep was "written" in the Swedish tradition - warp rep with colour-and-weave relies on thick and thin wefts. The picture below shows two ways of writing warp rep - with three picks representing one thick, or with thick and thin wefts:

If the warp (red and white) is close enough, this is what you should see after weaving:

This was a very popular technique for rugs in Sweden.

- using one and two picks of a thinner grist on a more open warp (as the draft can also mean) will give you a different quality cloth, that could be termed "half-basket".

Does it say add tabby?  Sometimes only the pattern weft is noted and you need to weave alternating tabby (plain weave) between each pattern weft.

wouldn't it be somewhat hard to add tabby to a 2-shaft/2-treadle pattern? (of course it can be interpreted as a profile draft, but reading it "as is" it already is a plain weave)

Thanks for the great replys! I got around the problem by going around the outer warp end for the second pick and it did work well. The pattern looks right that way.

I have to admit that using thicker thread didn't cross my mind, but i'll keep it there for next time. Thanks kerstinfroberg!

Can't see anywhere adding tabby sugesstion in the pattern, but i guess it's an option. Is there a specific way in which adding tabby is noted?
