So new that when I wrote this post, I got it on the main page first instead of here.  So you may see this twice.  Sorry :(

Hi, I am new to Backstrap weaving.  I stumbled upon this site when researching card weaving.  I do many fiber arts.  Knitting, Crochet, Bobbin Lace, Romanian Point Lace, Traditional Rug Hooking  and now have dove head first into card weaving and backstrap weaving.  I avoided weaving because I just didn't need another craft, but because I like the challenge of learning a new art I just couldn't resist any longer.  I have done my first narrow learning piece and it was pretty bad. I warped up my backstrap this weekend and had many problems getting the warp right.  Wrong number of rounds and I kept messing up the order of my warp strings.  Grr.  But to make a long story short, this evening I was able to get to start weaving.  It is really looking pretty good.  I will post picture when it is done.

I look forward to making new friends here.  It looks like everyone here is real friendly and lots of help to each other.

Hi Bobbie and welcome. All those problems you mentioned with your first project are pretty much normal. It takes practice to get the hang of making the string heddles without crossing the warps. Glad to hear that your new attempt is turning out well and that you are pleased with it.

I finished the beginning tutorial and I am so anxious to start the next.  The edges were pretty bad in the little lesson piece. In the picture I tried to show that the first, solid blue one, got a little narrower but other than that it was ok and I had a blast learning.  The second, the stripe, turned out pretty well as far as technique, but the pattern was off.  I didn't notice until I had it off the warping board that the stripe was off.  Oh well, I was just practicing my technique. I am so tickled that I found this site and your blog Lavern, I am having an absolute blast!

to mention that when I was warping the first backstrap, I discovered that a pair of old pipe clamps I had in the garage, worked awesome for warping.

Wow! A girl who invented a new use for pipe clamps! I love it when people make do with what they have on hand! Welcome to Weavo!

Have a good day!
