I am considering moving to a 32" rigid heddle, but was told by an experienced weaver that the stick shuttle is not practical at that width and I should move to a 4 shaft loom.  I've seen that Glimakra sells a boat shuttle for rigid heddle looms.  Has anyone tried it?

my swedish boat shuttles on my 25" rigid heddle loom all the time and love them for wider projects. Several of my friends use boat shuttles on their RH looms as well - boat shuttles of various ilks including the Glimakra RH boat shuttle. I still use my stick shuttles, especially for thicker yarns, but for finer threads the boat shuttle is the way to go.

I have the Glimakra classic boat shuttle. It's a dream to weave with on my 32" rigid heddle! I wove with stick shuttles for so many years -- it never crossed my mind that I could use a boat shuttle on the rigid heddle. I also use the classic shuttle on my shaft loom, especially with wider warps, or when I want to put a lot of yarn/ thread on the quill, because it holds a lot. A four shaft loom is great, but I had 30 happy years weaving on my 32" rigid heddle. Have fun, and enjoy the journey!

There are some nice thin boat shuttles that you can find if you shop around and they do slide nicely through my 32" Kromski.

Thank you so much.  It sounds as if either way I decide to weave, the Glimakra shuttle can be put to use.   Maybe choosing this shuttle is easier than choosing the type of loom?
