I want to weave the sample blanked by Janet Phillips, http://www.janetphillips.clara.net/  her project calls for 6/2 and 12/2 cotton, these appear to be normal weights in the UK, what should I look for here in the USA? What can I substitute?

I don't live in the USA so I don't know what is readily available, but I have noticed that on-line weaving supplies shops  offer a selection of weaving yarns in different sizes. It would be worth phoning or emailing a few of them to see what equivalent size yarns they stock and can recommend as a substitute.

The first number refers to the thickness of the yarn, and the second to the number of plies used to make up the yarn. Its not related to the sizing used for knitting yarns.

Similar weights are 5/2 and 10/2 mercerized cotton, which are widely available in the US, and would be good choices for the gamps. Weaving them with the yarns you are most likely to use will give you the most helpful reference.

I love the Phillips book and am looking forward to experimenting with it myself.
