I am about to wind a 20 yard warp in 10/2 cotton for rep upholstery fabric. I am warping a Barbara IV, which has a paddle warp beam. Usually, paddle beams are sectional, but this on isn't. The last time I warped it, I used aluminum screen for packing, which was bulky and a PIA to work with. I have fiberglass screen for this warp, which doesn't stretch or compress, but seems awfully soft. I have read several people say they use construction paper, but HD only had 36" rolls, and it seemed very soft, too. Does anyone have experience with fiberglass screen for warp packing? I use sticks on all my other looms, but sticks don't work on this paddle beam. I have also heard of using Phifertex, which is stiffer, but quite expensive.
