I am quite inspired by the ikat Rebozos and I have the skills to make one.  The temptation is to jump in and try to make one.  That is my demon, skipping all the little steps, such as sampling, needed to be successful at a big new endeavor such as making an ikat rebozo.

I need to test the finished size, the yarn to use and the sett.  So my goal is to make a non-ikat rebozo to test all of these factors, a full sized sample so to speak.  Here is one in techniques I know and have used

What I see is that this is a striped warp-faced web in two colors with a central band with pick-up designs, airplane and letters, in a technique I call South American paired floats.   This is a technique I have used many times in narrow bands.  The alphabet used here is new to me and could be an exciting addition to my motifs.   I'm no good at macrame so the fringe will be simpler.

Using my new-to-me Glimakra Standard loom is actually dare enough, but after weaving my first small sample-scarf, it's time for something bigger. :-)

Hoping I will not overreach myself, I think about a cloth with coloured stripes against a black background, woven with a goose-eye-pattern (black weft), that will vanish against the background and form some pattern with the coloured warp-stripes. And after seeing the pics, I think of a small makrame at the fringes, too.

Unfortunately, I will not be at home from 30 september to 9 october, so I will have to hurry up. :-)

I hope you have a fun trip planned.  If you have everything planned and are ready to warp the loom when you get home you should be done with the rest of us.  Getting your shawl planned and all the materials on hand  is always the big delay.

What kind of yarns were you thinking of using?

Yes, it's fun - I am invited to do a one-week-holiday-trip to denmark. :-) And I hope, I'll get ready with all the planning and buying stuff before leaving.

I think about using a thick wool. Something for a 30/10 reed (that is 7.5epi, I think). And about a long warp for doing the rebozo first and afterwards maybe two parts for sewing a poncho. But this is not sure, because I don't know if I'll manage to wind such a long warp on my warping board.

So far, I've never bought any special weaving yarns - using my rigid heddle, I've always taken knitting yarns from our local yarnstore. But this time, I suspect that I have to order some cones. Considering the number of colors I'd like to use, I think this project will lay a good foundation for a new growing weaving-stash.

Sorry, things changed very much and unfortuately I'll have no chance to particiapte in this HalloWeave. I wish you all a lot of fun and success with your projects and I'm  looking forward to see the pics of them.

I've never woven warp-faced cloth, and I love doing new things, so I'm going to give this a try.

Inspired/intrigued by Cathie's sample here, I will try to make at least a sample. There are a few other things to get done first, so I don't know if I can do it "on time"...
