I have a WONDERFUL old, hand made counterbalance loom.  I've woven hundreds of pieces on it and just love working on it.  I have a new(ish) development, however.  The two top rollers are NOT balanced.  Lamms are balanced, harnesses are balanced, all ties are same length, but the roller that raises/lowers harnesses 3 & 4 is almost an inch higher than the one that raises/lowers 1 & 2.  I've tried rotating the top roller (thinking maybe I had a flat/worn spot), no change.  This does mean that my shed isn't quite as clean as it used to be.

Any ideas what I should check/do next???unbalanced roller bars

Hi Peg,

When I had this problem, Joanne Hall said to start at the top and work my way down.  Support the shafts and check all the cords including the ones to the lamms.  She also sent me a page, as did Marie, about how to handle a narrow warp which can influence the balance of the shafts.  There is a page in the Laila Lundell Big Book of Weaving and she talks about running a doubled length of "fishyarn" or cotton rug warp from the front to the back beam and through the shafts to to help this problem.

I wrote about the same issue, different loom, here.
