hello, I am charged with the task of securing a teacher for a weaving class. I have arranged  for an instructor but now need to give her a contract.  I am at a loss for where to start. Does anybody have a contract for a weaving teacher that is a fill in the blank to guide me.  Thanks in advance.

ask the instructor to provide you with their contract. If they do not have one, then ask that they generate one for you.

Once you have that document in hand, discuss additional items they might not have considered so you can come to agreement and amend the document to satisfy both parties.

The basics should cover cost (one set fee, or per pupil?), length of instruction (per hour or day), reimbursement for travel, materials, and/or incidentals, a materials list (either materials provided by the instructor, or that the students must bring), and what happens if either party has to cancel.

Will an advance deposit be required by the instructor, or from students to secure their space?

I typically would not arrange for an instructor until these questions were answered. If s/he has already discussed them with you, then it should be easy for that person to put them into writing for you. I would not be comfortable borrowing a form from another source because each guild operates a bit differently, as do many instructors.

Hope that helps get you rolling with your workshop.

Required info would be things like...

date(s) of event

time and location of event

title/description for group marketing purposes (including photos when requested)

fee(s)

equipment provided by hosting group (including photocopying class handouts if needed)

equipment/materials provided by instructor

cost of materials provided by instructor to be reimbursed by group

cost of travel/accommodation if required

cancellation date (I don't book any travel or ship any materials until event has been confirmed)

transporation from airport if required

food (I have food allergies and therefore have dietary restrictions that must be met)

I also require the workshop to be scent free (again, allergies)

it doesn't hurt to specify date signed contract is to be returned, although most instructors are pretty good about this...sometimes life gets busy!

There are probably a few others, but I'm tired after travelling all day...
