Hey there. so i bought a used loom. 36 in 4 harness Harrisville and the backbeam keeps letting loose and  wont hold tension. It isn't the brake not holding tight enough, it's the beam(the large dowel) not staying tight into the spog(?) on the end that the brake actually pulls against.

HOW CAN I FIX THIS?

my apologies with terminology

so the brake drum is loose from the warping beam and wont resist for tension

any way to fix this???

I would suggest getting on the " do it yourself " ( DIY) thread where people fix and make looms. They most likely can help you best there. Good Luck , I'm sure it can be fixed! Cathie

A lot depends on the style of brake you have and how it is attached to the warp beam (long round beam).  But first of all, contact Harrisville, they are very good about customer sevice and product support.

Hi crews, I went to Harrisville Loom Schematics and came up with Harrisville Loom Manuals. If you know the width of your loom you can call and purchase a manual. Sounds good to me:) Cathie

Tighten everything with a screwdriver. Is there a warp on this loom? If not, how do you know it won't hold tension? If there is a warp, did you wind the warp the correct direction around the beam?

You didn't indicate your level of weaving experience, so these are just simple suggestions I have encountered with new weavers and their looms.

One time a weaver took an innocent looking piece off the tensioning part if her loom. Once we replaced and tightened it, she was back in business.

I hope it is that simple!

First some pictures would help us know if you have a ratchet and prawl or friction brake.  Since this is a loom still in production, have you talked to Harrisville?  They are fairly accessible by phone but  you will probably need photos since you don't have the correct terminology yet.
