Any advice about what bobbin winder to buy? I'm trying sectional warping with a frame, not sure what it's called but have 40 bobbins to wind per section. So that's basically one bobbin per end as I'm doing rainbow stripes, over 600....so I'm thinking about investing in a winder. I've been using a drill for quills but just got a end feed shuttle too so not sure how I could do pirns on a drill. Also drill is cordless and won't last for 600 bobbins

Anyway! I'm in the UK and want something which will last me and give enough flexibility for what I might need it for, but I don't know what I might need in the future!

How deep does the hole go inside your pirns? I'm sure they are made to slip onto a winder. But, I made home made pirns and tapered the hole, so it slips right on my winder with friction. Then for my quills I just build up the diameter of the rod some and slip on the quills. My quills are just rolled card stock used in the printer.

I made my own winder, that is hand wound. But, that in neither here nor there. Electric will get you there faster, so to speek. With drills, I only go electric because I don't generally do much outside work requiring it. So, I'm always near an outlet. The best kind, and hard to find these days, is one that has variable speed. Usually adjusted with a trigger dial, to control the depth the trigger is depressed. And a trigger lock.
