I am searching for a beginner's weaving class in the Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania area.  I purchased a Harrisville Design Floor Loom at an auction and am very nervous about trying to warp it myself without some instruction.

If there's nothing available for in person classes, Craftsy has a great floor loom weaving class taught by Janet Dawson.  I took it when I got my first loom and found it very helpful.

I actually did purchase that class that Jane Dawson teaches, and it is a wonderful class. . . its what I will be referring to when I get up the courage to try and warp my loom, but I would love to see someone do it in person :)   Thanks for your response!!!

Yes, that course has been very valuable to me as well. Even small things make a difference and I'm a visual learner.  You have the ability to ask questions too, and Janet answers them.  I highly recommend it.

I also recommend the Interweave press video by Madelyn Van der Hoogt on warping.  I think they have that available as a download.  Although she covers front to back and back to front, it has more focus on fron tot back.  I normally warp my Harrisville loom front to back, and my Macomber back to front.  I understand how you feel, but put on a warp without too many threads and go for it!

Hi there!  I am a member of the Butler County Spinning and Weaving Guild.  The guild is in the process of hosting a beginning/advanced weaving class at the Depreciation Lands Museum in Allison Park.  The first beginning and advanced classes are full.  There was so much of a response and waiting list that they had enough to offer another beginning class in April.  That also appears full.. but you may want to contact the museum for information.

The Butler guild meets on the first Wednesday of the month at 10am.  They are an amazing group of talented people.  Link with info in case you might like to join us sometime:

PattiPrice,  Guilds are the way to go! There is so much learning to be had there! Plus wonderful friendships to be had ! Don't be intimadated, with all the beginners classes at this particular guild mentioned, there will be lots of beginners! Also as their current classes seem to be full, do call them as wren house suggested, you may find someone who would give you private lessons!

good luck, welcome to weaving! A guild member of The Weavers Guild Of Greater Cincinnater for 30 years.

thank you so much for your response.  I have already emailed the museum to see if they have any additional classes scheduled.  I will definitely take this if I can get into a class!!!!
