The month of October, coinciding with Spinning and Weaving Week,
Weavolution is hosting it’s first ever HalloWeave Extravaganza!

HalloWeave is a fun four week event, where each of us gets a wee bit better at fibery things;
weaving, spinning, finishing, dyeing, etc.

October 3rd, 2011 - Halloween, October 31.

We’re recruiting you to help make this fun and successful.
We know you teach…are you willing to lead?

What’s in it for you?

  • Fun light opportunity to have people start using the tools of weavolution for future classes. (uploading pictures, webex,  groups)
  • You’ll be increasing your visibility online as a Weavolution teacher.
  • By  engaging new people, you may increase the number Weavolution members and students in your classes .

Many people weave but only a few will step up to lead!

  • Group Name: Stripemaniacs of Transilvania
  • Group Leader: Mary Rios
  • Demon: Paralysis by anaylsis.... That’s what happens when I think about stripes in my warp. I don’t do them, because I don’t think I do them well.
  • The Dare: I’ll be creating a tea towel with (hopefully) appealing stripes.
  • Execution: Dracula will join us and guide our group to Transtripevania to maybe study Fibanocci, online random strip generators and general discussion of how to make an appealing warp with stripes. Let’s look at how others are doing it so effortlessly.  I think collective minds with the same issue will conquer this. After looking at good samples, and understanding Fibanoccia, maybe we’ll have a better results.
  • Project: My  project will be a tea towel in stripes, random or pattern. What will yours be?

Let’s meet up  online via webex one evening a week during HalloWeave to discuss our problems and progress. We’ll share our pictures and have discussions online.

If this interests you, become a member of Stripemaniacs of Transilvania and finally put the stake in heart of this vexing issue, vanishing our paralysis by anaylsis for good!

  • be able to set up a public group on Weavolution.
  • be able to  convene and conduct 3 half hour WebEx meetings(easy to learn)
  • some administrative responsibilities such as getting all group members names to prize bank
  • willingness to engage in HalloWeave events

  • Get an idea and name your group.  Silliness encouraged.
  • Post motivation and description of your idea for the group.
  • Optional: group logo or graphic.
  • Recruit members.
  • Keep a list of people who join your group and send to prize bank.
  • Moderate group.
  • Participate in HalloWeave on-line events 3 Oct., 1 Nov.
  • Convene and host weekly half hour Webex gatherings of your group.
  • Optional: Collect and award prizes within the group.  State criteria for prizes clearly. Random awards encourage membership.  Don't become a judge.

Group leaders are NOT responsible for teaching or coaching anything in their groups.  This is a self-directed experience.  It is not a weave-a-long, not a class.  It is time in your studio to do those things you have been meaning to do and an incentive to complete it.  At the most the group leader is a model on how to attack a weaving demon.

  • HalloWeave group formation will start soon, under groups with special HalloWeave tab.  We would like the majority of the groups in place by 19 September when we will invite the Weavolution membership to join the HalloWeave groups.

Please feel free to ask me question here, by PM or email.  This is the first year, new to everyone so I'm sure there are lots of loose ends.

I'll do "Revenge of the Shrunken Heads"

(AKA differential shrinkage, web type structures which rely on wet finishing and shrinkage for structure).  I guess I'll wait till tomorrow to see how to set it up?

Do you have any question about HalloWeave?  This is a great chance to be part of an exciting learning experience at very little cost to you.  What teacher doesn't want to encourage experiences where they are learning and students are learning.

If you form a HalloWeave team or Group you will then be eligible for a drawing of a prize for team leaders only-- a flash drive.  A bit of a reward for a few minutes of your time.

Hi Karren,

I thought the idea of a garment team was a good one, so I'd like to start it, but what are the mechanics of doing so?  Also, when are the WebEx meetings on Oct 3 and Nov 1?  I work during the day (Pacific time) and the WebExes have tended to be scheduled at times when I can't attend.

Also, I would be happy to donate some yarn prizes if you think they would increase interest.

All you have to do is form a group and mark it as a HalloWeave group.  I think there is a special tab for the HalloWeave groups.  We have decided that the events on 3Oct and  1 Nov will be recorded and you can watch the recorded events for 24 hrs. on demand, so for sure you can do that.  What time do you leave for work?  Let me see if I can schedule it for before work.

I'll have Beth Parks send you a link to the e-form for donations.  She is handling the event wide donations,  If you want to keep the donation in your group, you handle it.

Thanks a million for playing in our little game!

I leave for work around 8:30am Pacific Time.  I'm usually up by around 6am, but I'd prefer to do it after 7am if possible - that way I won't disturb my sleeping S.O..  But I could do it at 6am if needed.

I'll set up a group in a little bit - need to think of a catchy name first.

Looks like 7PDT/10EDT might work.  Details to be worked out.
