Ok I am so new to weaving and I need some help can anyone tell me what gauge of yarn I should look for to make garment appareal? Both medium gauge which would produce a thick and mnedium like linen texture? And only for wool yarns if you can help please. Note not yarn you buy at Walmart in which people weave mittens and things garment... yarn. Thank you!

Weaving yarn generally comes on cones. It is much less elastic than knitting yarn and generally less expensive. There are quite a few good suppliers of weaving yarn but you will never find it in Walmart!

For garments, I like rather fine yarns. What kind of loom do you have? Twills are good for clothing and also for a first warp on a loom with 4 or more shafts. Twill needs a closer sett (how many ends per inch) than plain weave, but you can look on a sett chart.

The fiber you use depends on what you prefer to wear and also where you live. I have woven cloth for blouses, vests and jackets using 20/2 cotton, 16/2 cotton, 10/2 Tencel, 20/2 and 30/2 silk, and 18/2 wool. These are sizes for weaving yarn.

The actual loom I'll be using is a lecrec artisa jake loom 8 shaft. So here is a question what does 18/2, 20/2 ect.. mean what are the two number represent? And wear is the best place to get yarn and how large can you get if you are a buisness. I'm starting my own buisness small and humble but none the less my own. My weaving project is going to be for a 32'' by 84" dont know how the project lose and waiste yet but this project will be completely wool.

Check out some of the advertisers here for yarns. It depends on what you want and where you live. some give bulk discounts. You will want to buy their sample cards. The numbers refer to hoe many plays and hoe many yards per pound. I think you can find info under Resources on this site, or the suppliers can generally give that info for their yarns. You might like to sign up for Janet Dawsons class on Craftsy. She will walk you through the basics. Cheers Laura

18/2 merino wool when held taught against a ruler is 1/32" in diameter. But like the others have stated you wll want to get a sample card, both for sizing and the colors. On screen, colors can be a lot different. Knitting wool yarns can be used for some items, but is very elastic and probably shrinks a lot more. I have woven scarves, blankets and throws from it and the mill that makes it says it is used for weaving blankets, coats and upholstery for some of their yarns, not all. I am going to use singles for a coverlet, purchased from a weaving yarn supplier, but the exact same thing I can get at the mill. These are skeined singles, they no longer do cones for it.

I would agree with Bonnie and Laura for the most part. Best to buy yarn meant to be woven.

Welcome to weaving, lots to learn. Good luck with your business venture.
