I'm a new owner of Standard 120cm 10/10. I am working on a waffle weave towel 37 inch wide.. The draft is 1,2,3,4,3,2 repeat the tie up is 1 - 2- 1,3 -1,2,4-1,2,3  the treadle order 1,2,3,4,5,4,3,2 repeat.  When I get to treadle 4 and 5 my shuttle falls through the warp.  What am I doing wrong. On my Macomber I had a shuttle race but not on this loom. I have a nice even shed. Do I need a longer shuttle? I'm using an 11 inch boat shuttle.

I think I would tighten the warp. Since the threads don't have to stretch as much as a jack or counterbalance you can weave with a tighter warp.

Thanks, I have it pretty tight now. I am working on a new idea and so far it is working. I am using the reeds that came with my Mocomber which are 4 inch and the Standard uses 2 3/4 inch. I raised the beater bar and now the bottom shed rests on the bottom of the reed. I'm not sure if this is how it should be but it is working and I am back in like with this loom. I also have to come up with a name for her. You know if you name it you have to keep it.

Waffle weave has inherent in the structure one or two sheds where more threads lift than sink. It is easier to have the shuttle drop through on these.

You don't need to modify the loom in any way - you should, instead concentrate on how you throw your shuttle. In most cases, the issue is that you are not experienced sufficiently and need to throw very evenly with no upward or downward component in the throw. Practice a bit and you'll notice a definite improvement. The lack of a shuttle race is not a flaw in the design - the shuttle race on the jack loom is to compensate for the slightly loose shed floor. When doing unalanced weaves, try to have the most threads on the floor and you are good to go.

Thanks. I know about the reason for shuttle race on my jack loom, that is one reason I decided to get a countermarch loom. You can pick up bad habits when you have a race. I have to learn to control the shuttle. I also think by raising the beater bar to match the size of the Standard reed helped a lot. It will take time to learn all, well some, of the tricks and features of this loom.

Yes it takes practice.  And in my case a handy dog who knew how to retrieve.

Still miss that dog.

I don't think that will work with my cat.

I have been working on controlling my shuttle. I also bought a new shuttle with rollers, that helped a lot.
