Enquiring minds want to know!  What are you planning to make during Halloweave?

I'm going to do a coat, if I get the fabric woven up (and my muslins finished) in time!

It is so hard to recommend a pattern for someone else as we are all different shapes and likes and dislikes.  What I think is really great may bore you to tears.  Pick out a pattern that you really like and think you would wear.  Think simple lines as then you don't distract from the beauty of your handwoven fabric with seams and darts etc, (and less sewing). Then you can make a mock up jacket in commercial fabric and check the fit.  If you sew it completely you can actually wear it!!  If not sew the basic shape, but don't worry about lining, finishing etc.  Rather than buy fabric to waste, you can use muslim, an old sheet, or in my case the ahem, historical fabrics that I have bought over the years and never used. (I used to sew before I wove).

Or you can design a gorgeous piece of fabric, make it generous in length and width, and it should be enough to inspire you as to what kind of jacket it wants to be.  I hang yardage in my studio for a while and let it talk to me sometimes!!  And no, last time I checked I haven't gone crazy yetSorry if this is not the answer you were looking for, but hope it helps.  Someone else may send some other ideas. I know what its like to have a block.

good luck ,

Your answer is very good.   Thanks!    I like the idea of hanging the fabric in my studio and looking at it.  I should have thought of that myself  since that is what I do with everything else I work on.   I'll get something done.  This is just what I need.

Made a decision and will pull out my sewing skills and will make a vest.  The sewing room is ready.  I'll take a favorite vest sweater that I have and adapt it to my weaving.

SaraLou,

I have been working on the fabric for this project for a while, and have been blogging about it since I started.  Rather than repeat everything I already wrote about (I'd rather be weaving), I am inviting anyone that is interested to look at my blog: http://jennybellairs.blogspot.com/

My first post about it was in June.  My main advice is to fuse the fabric before cutting, unless you used very fine yarns for your weaving. These critter patterns tend to have narrow seams, so the fabric must be stabilized.  I discuss that topic in my blog also.  I am working on my last couple fabrics right now.  Hopefully they will be completely woven and wet finished in the next few days.

Have fun picking a critter and creating a gift that is sure to please someone.

Historic garments often had cotton binding strips on the edge. You can see some ideas in Couture Sewing by Claire B. Shaeffer. A guild I use often.

Thanks Jenny!

Nice blog, I'm still collecting materials and picking out a pattern.  but I guess that counts as doing something! I also checked out the homemade cloth diaper site, pretty awesome.  I have a two month old - so we will see if i can get through making a teddy bear for him! and then maybe some diapers?

I drove 425 miles yesterday and had zero energy today. I did my rides and that's it. Tomorrow is another day, maybe to count and thread.
