Somebody decided to head up a sprang team! Awesome. I've got my project in the works already. It would be going a lot faster if it was just a sprang piece, but it's not - I have to weave my sprang warp into my cardweaving as a supplemental weft first. SO SLOWWWW! So what are you going to try?

I'm going to try a mesh bag with drawstring. I made last year, did not come out well. I want to give it another try. Have a good day! Franco Rios Sacramento

The hamacs that are used for sleeping in the hot climate in Venezuela as supposed to be the largest sprang cloth made.  Here is a run of the mill one

The body of the hamac is sprang, the decorative edging is crochet. My favorites have a beautiful knotting up near the loop used to hang it.  I have 3, one white, one multicolored and one in an unbleached palm fiber, moriche.  As soon as I can I'll dig them out and take some detail pictures for you all.

There are cheaper ones made in netting like you see from Central America but the knots in the netting are not as smooth to sleep on.  You wake up with hundreds of bumps on your skin from all the knots. Hamacs are prefect for sleeping in the heat because the air can circulate below you and above.  You need air conditioning to sleep in a bed which retains the heat.  There are even mosquito nets that go with the hamacs.

That hammock reminds me that my brother-in-law has a hammock made in sprang, not the knotted netting. I've been meaning to get some pictures of it so I can try to duplicate it. I'll have to visit him this weekend. Have a good day!

I had one ( the cheaper net type) and it had been useful and comfortable until one evening 4 years ago. I sat in the middle and as I laid back and pulled my legs up to lay in it - the dang thing swang just like you would see in a cartoon. I was thrown out like a slingshot and landed jabbing my left elbow into my left side ribcage. I almost had the breath knocked out and was in immediate pain all thru my midsection. I had broken a couple of ribs. I put the thing in the trash as I did not want to give it to anyone else to get hurt with.

Hi! I put the pictures of a bag to my daughter. I don´t do still  the handle. The technique is interlinked sprang. The design is determinated by the order of the colors of the warp. I am very happy with this new group!

I just joined the group and as there is not so much time left, I will attempt a small piece of sprang in a technique relatively new to me: a small bag in double-sided sprang.

Some years ago I made a small sample in this technique but then abandoned it due to other sprang-things to try out.

I'm still considering which kind of fibre I'm going to use.

I decided to use a hand-dyed Nm20/4 wool that is usually suitable for sock-knitting. Now it's deciding on the colours.

Tomorrow there will be a crafts-meeting at my house and then I will wind up the sprang-warp and give it a start. Or let's hope that I'll do that... our group is also planning to do some felting and dyeing with left-over woad from our garden...

Have a good day

How many people are using sock yarn for sprang? It looks like it would be a good thickness for sprang. Have a good day!
