While some may think this is cheating, those of us with a stripe phobia may benefit from this. Our eye might be "trained"?!

Here's a bar code generator that's fun to play with:

I guess I cheated, I started with a stripe pattern  that had already been selected-- by the maker, by the collector-- for its pleasing pattern.  With the generator you have to judge for yourself.

With the stripe generator, I can look at it and instantly decide if it is pleasing to look at, and if not, click, and it's gone and another stripe series is there.  Some stripes just look right, and others don't.  Too much of one color?  Click and try again.  Great toy.

That's a good generator Mary! It offers quite a lot of possibilities and one you get the hang of how it works then good things start comming out. I could play with it for hours. The only thing i miss about it is picking your own colours.

There is also a great tool here for pattern creation. In the dropdown menu there is a stripe option and on page two of the suggested patterns is a plain stripe. Working with the palette and rearanging the colours make nice stripes.

That's the one i made without much effort. I'm not sure if this will be the palette i'll be using for the challenge, but i'll have to make up my mind soon.

Is it cheating - well i guess so, but it's a good starting point. I think about touching up the pattern to fit exactly the idea i have. Hope this minimises the cheating part :)

i think good interesting stripe creation is difficult - these tools will produce pleasing results and in the process, using these tools will help form our appreciation and understanding for future "organic" ideas for our projects. Yes, that's my story, and i'm stickin' to it!
