Brits, tell me what you think or know about it without looking anything up. I have a reason for asking it this way which I will reveal later.

I've no idea - "shadow weave"? curious though.

I think of shadow weave as a structure where you use every other thread ligth/dark in both warp and weft. I have just posted a scarf in shadow weave (merino wool scarf).

So do I, Ellen,

I went to my local library and asked for the interlibrary loan of the Powell book on shadow weave, and it took a long time coming because there was no copy of it in the UK. When it arrived and I went to pick it up, the librarian told me that the fact that the book could not be located in the UK meant that shadow weave was not a part of the UK's weaving history. That seemed incredible, so I started asking around. One Brit told me he understood shadow weaving as a form of bound weave, which doesn't at all fit with our understanding of it, or so it seems to me, but does fit more closely with what I see in pictures of UK products said to contain shadow weave, almost a damask or same-color brocade. Example (not easy to see):

You'll note there are no replies to my posting here, so now I'm wondering again. Entriguing, huh?
