What an awesome piece! Love it:>.
Do you know how far back in history the aakle and grene weaving goes? I'm just starting to read about it in Marla Hoffman's book about warp weighted weaving:>.
Thank you very much! I'm going to ILL the book this week. I just built a Warp Weighted Loom and am very interested in finding out about different types of weaving that may have and is still being done on it. Thanks!
Hi Jeanne-Marie, did you ever find out any info on it's use in a Sca context? I have been looking at it and finding nothing on it's history:< Thanks, Virag
Thanks Franco:>. I finally figured out the heddles by realizing I could click on pics from http://www.housebarra.com/EP/ep03/14warping.html and get a great pic. After that it turned out to be really easy. I started by trying it the way Laverne taught me on the backstrap loom but the size of it was a bit difficult...6 ft heddle bar! I'm finding this loom to be really, really relaxing so far. We'll see what happens when I try to beat the weft upwards while standing on a bench though:>:>:>
Hi. I'm setting up a Warp Weighted room that my husband made for me this past weekend. Do you recall exactly how you did the heddles? I'm at that point and a little unsure what the best method to use would be. Thanks, Virag
Oh please do check Ravelry as well. These two sites compliment each other very well. I'm going thru the photos right now trying to decide what aspects of construction I like and think we can do with the tools we have. I LOVE the painted Gecko wheel you did which got me to looking at the painted wheels in India. Lots of music videos from Bollywood showing the wheels on Youtube which is interesting to me:>. I especially like how you are using items you find for a new purpose. That's awesome:>. The chair....that rocks:>.
I really admire these charhka's you're making! I've been collecting pictures of the traditional, upright types and am trying to get started on one of my own. Do you have a blog or website??? If you are on Ravelry there is a Charhka group and a Spindle Wheel group that I think your experiences would be very valuable to share on:>
