Waffle Weave Problems

This is my second attempt at waffle weave.  The first one was done at 24 epi and was worse.  This one is 20 epi using 8/2 cotton.  I can only get 16-17 ppi, no matter how hard I beat.  Do I need to open up the sett more, or increase tension to fit in more warp?  Any help would be welcome.

Waffle Weave

I did 8 shaft waffle at 24 epi with 8/2 and it looked great. I have no idea what the picks/inch were.  What does your cloth look like, and remember that you won't see the waffles until it's off the loom and washed.

Waffle weave problems

I posted a picture under Projects; I don't know how to add it here.  I made a sample and it is washed and dries.  The warp threads look wavy, like the weft shrunk more.  Same thing happened at 24 epi.

I can't post the draft, because it was on my computer that crashed.  But I can give you the specifics, if it helps.

The threading is  2,3,4,3,2,1

The treadling is :

          2,     1&3,     1,2,&4       1,2,&3       1,2,&4

                  1&3        2,    1

I have  4 shaft loom.

Ok, that is the 4 shaft

Ok, that is the 4 shaft waffle I use. And you won't get the same shrinkage and deflection you see in 7 shaft designs. The cells are shallower on 4 shaft waffle. :)

Here is 7 shaft (+ 1 for selvedge control) that uses 2 lines of stitches.

Selvedge bends around when wet finished. The edges do catch like plain weave, but it is deflected when washed.

Thanks for that info; at least I know I'm using a draft that should work.  The problem I have is that the long warp floats end up looking loose or wavy.  I see a little of that in your photo, on the green towel.  Do you have any ideas for eliminating that, or is that part of 4 shaft weaving?
