This is a multi-purpose project. The Frances Irwin Handweavers guild is doing a round robin in November 2010 on Monk's Belt. I also had some gatherings and demo opportunities coming up before the guild meeting, so I decided to put this warp on the 8" Structo Mighty Metal Monster for others to experience. The guild is hoping to contribute goodie bag items for the MAFA workshop weekend 2011, (eye glass cases) so I planned this warp with those specifications in mind.
I started with the Strickler 8-shaft draft, but decided to turn the draft so that it would be a one-shuttle weave instead of two. This would be easier for guest weavers at the demo opportunities and round robin. I have posted my revised draft under the "drafts" section here at Weavolution, with a little more about how the draft evolved from 8 shafts to 4 and then back up to 6. (It can easily be woven on 4 if you have a preponderance of heddles on two of those shafts!)
Bonnie Inouye added a comment under my draft, and the fabric used in the prototype eye glass case you see here was a direct result of her suggestion. (Thanks Bonnie!)
