Posted on Mon, 09/21/2015 - 12:37 Hi there. You have done an Hi there. You have done an excellent job getting this set up...warping, making string heddles etc. As you have found out, choosing appropriate yarn is a big part of the success of a backstrap project when you are first starting out. Yes, as you say, you will find mercerized cotton a lot easier to work with until you get used to the workings of a backstrap loom especially if you are using a warp-faced structure. However, it is not unusual for beginners to have trouble with sticky sheds even when they use mercerized cotton. You need time to perfect the moves that are required to open the heddle shed smoothly without wrenching or scraping the heddles along the warp. You will learn a lot from this project. Have fun with it!
