A very similar design was shared by Milissa Ellison Dewey of Asheville, North Carolina. I was inspired by the design that originated from her great great great aunt Mart: Martha Henry Chaney (1824-1901), of Laurel Grove, VA, by whom Milissa believes it was woven around 1870. This is a variation of that coverlet from a draft I collabarated on with Milissa. You can check out Milissa's work on her Facebook page, she spins, weaves, teaches and runs a shop.

20/2 cotton was used throughout. This warp will be towels and I may experiment with color as I go. :)

Wow!  Beautiful!  Another on

Wow!  Beautiful!  Another on my 'wanna do' list - M's and O's.

Amazing how  a structure with one color can creat so many different shades of itself.

Beautiful

It is just lovely. Is your sett for PW? or denser - love the ribs of the Ms and Os.

Yummy texture

ReedGuy,

How meaningful to revive this beautiful weave!  You both must be pleased with how this turned out.

This piece used 2 wefts per

This piece used 2 wefts per pick in the M's and O's and 4 wefts per pick as honeycomb outliner. The O block is twice the size here as the honeycomb. The original design used blocks of honeycomb equal in size to the O's. Thus I call it a derivative of the original.

Beautiful!

Ive only seen this weave structure in books. It's  a structure worthy of upholstery of a special piece of furniture!  Beautifully woven Reed Guy!

Wow

Just finished an M&Os series of towels I was not exactly thrilled with.

This is the first M&Os work that makes me want to revisit that structure.

The O's will be more rounded

The O's will be more rounded if they are the same size as the honeycomb (paw prints), this piece also uses turned M's weft wise across from honeycomb section to the next. That eliminates long back floats. Did you see my blooming leaf coverlet in M's and O's Sally? That coverlet project was threaded solid warp color and solid weft color, but it would also be very nice as a shadow weave.

single weft

This is with a single weft for the M's and O's and still 4 for honeycomb outliner.

I think I do prefer the doubled weft version.
