Hi-
We have parts from a 30" AVL A-series CompuDobby loom that we would like to donate to a place where they will be loved and used. These parts include:
-24 harnesses with like-new nylon heddles
-Dobby mechanism: spring levers, lower cam/cylinder/pulley, upper harness pulley support assembly
-Treadles
-A CompuDobby unit (solenoid/electronics box)
-Some parts of the A-series frame
Note that what is *not* included are beams, beater/reed, tensioning/takedown, bench, or a complete frame. The frame members that *are* included are the lengthwise ones (running from front to back of the machine).
I can imagine three situations where these parts could be useful:
-If you already have a 30" AVL A-series loom, you could use these parts to upgrade to 24 harnesses with electronic control. Even if you have a smaller number of harnesses currently, the lengthwise frame members will allow you to expand your loom longer to accomodate the new harnesses.
-If you are interested in a woodworking project, you could build the rest of the frame yourself (especially if you don't care about extra features like automatic tensioning or cloth advance).
-If you were already pricing out this specific loom, you might be able to buy just the remaining parts from AVL for cheaper than the cost of the whole loom. I could help you sort out which official AVL part numbers you'd need to buy. (This might be equivalent to the first scenario listed -- you could buy a 30" A-series with minimal harnesses and then upgrade with these.)
These parts are in Pittsburgh, PA, and already packed in shipping crates. You will need to arrange for their transit yourself. (If you're an institution such as a school, community center, or hackerspace, we might be able to help with transit.) We are trying to get rid of them as soon as possible. Please let me know if you have any questions!
UPDATE: These parts are now on their way to a new home! Thanks for reading.
