Just wanted to say hello!  I am so glad I found this group on line! I have just purchased my first loom, an handmade antique, but totallly useable four heddle table loom.  I look forward to learning about my loom and starting the weaving process.  I do have a weaving/spinning guild in my area, but because I am a nurse, I work shiftwork and am not able to attend most of their meetings, so my knowledge so far has come from really helpful youtube videos and books.  I also found a wonderful local lady who is going to be helping me 1:1.  I have already looked through some of the newbie posts and am learning a lot already.  So thanks in advance for all of your help!  I am sure I will be a contributer in the near future...of questions, not answers!

I am hoping to start relearning to use my LeClerc Artisat which has been stored for 10 years.   I used my loom for a short time before moving, and with Deborah Chandler's wonderful book, I made some samples and a few placemats and runners.

Looking at them now , I am wondering how I did it. Hope I will be able to dress the loom again and look forward to learning again.

Welcome to weavo - I find this to be a very friendly community, and very helpful.  I, too, took a long break from weaving, and only came back to it a couple years ago.  This community here was instrumental for me getting back on track.

I should also say that having taken a break, coming back to weaving was a good opportunity for me to also up my game.  For example, I had heard that many people feel that back to front (B2F) warping is superior to F2B, but previously I had only done F2B (having learned from the Chandler book).  I'm happy to say that I've now fully transitioned to B2F, and was glad that I made the switch.

I do not have any personal experience with the Leclerk looms, but I am sure that there are plenty of folks here who will chime in.  Weavolution seems quiet these days - I think its because its the end of the summer, and lots of folks are out enjoying the weather.  Hang in there!

Diane, congratulations on making the time for your weaving again.

Barbie, sounds like you have a mentor. You will find more here.

I raise my shuttle to welcome you both.

HI Barbie!  Welcome to Weavo. Lots of knowledge here and people always willing to help. Enjoy!

Hello Diane! And welcome back to weaving! It will all come back like riding a bike. And your Artisat will perform admirably for you! They are good looms. Looking forward to seeing your projects!

As a former teacher used to tell me... "Jump in there...it's only yarn!"

I, too, am a nurse (Nights/OnCall) so I find trying to get to guild meetings a pain...even though the local guild has both daytime & evening meetings. I much prefer the inspiration and comraderie that can be culled & developed here at Weavolution.

That Deb Chandler book is truly valuable reference material. I use it a lot...all the time... It's just so well done.

Been a few weeks since I last checked in.  Have borrowed from the library or purchased the books that were recommended here.  Lots of great information.  And big news!  Had my first lesson yesterday.  My mentor, Cathy, helped me start getting the warp ready for my first tea towels ( start with something difficult)  .  She also generously gave me one of her three warping boards!  So now I have the warping threads measured and have started warping front to back.  Threads are through the reed, just waiting for lesson 2 when we will be completing the warp!  Am already bitten by the weaving bug!
