I did that once - with a group of area weavers.  We wove the triangles on our floor looms.  I think my finished triangle was a bit skimpy for a shawl and figured it might work better on a wider loom (mine weaves 36" wide). 

It's been a long time and I don't have any info. right at hand, but this project involved finishing off as I went.  One side of the triangle was the width of the loom - the other side was the far left warp thread.  I'm wondering if I was cutting one warp thread at a time - at the far end - and weaving it back in as weft.  Probably.  That's all I can envision at  this time.
