Notes

I have had a similar sort of towel in mind for ages, but it took Franco's WAL to get me off my duff and to actually do it..  I'm using up yarns I have around the house (well, yarns I bought years ago with these towels in mind, anyway), SouthMaid size 10 crochet cotton as warp with a worsted wt soft cotton as weft.  The Warp is short section variegated in xmas colors: red, green and while, and the weft is a "twist" of plys of the same colors: red green and white.  I'm expecting the resulting cloth to be a glorious mish-mash of holiday cheer.

I've chosen to weave hems with white crochet cotton rather than to hemstich fringe.  I prefer my towels with hems.  My warp of 60" should give me two 23" towels with 1" hem at both ends and I'm hoping the 10epi spacing I've chosen will allow the fatter weft to weave right in with no narrowing of the warp.  I've remade all my loom strings for this project, fashioned longer apron rods and packing since this is a wider project than I have done before.

More later, after I have actually done some weaving. :)

This is a much wider warp than I have used on my RH loom, so I had some difficulties with loose ends.  I couldnt find my lease sticks anywhere and even tho I wound the warp in bouts of 50 - 60 ends, the very short nature of the warp made it hard to beam by itself.  I tried to tie 2-liter sodas onto the bouts to provide some weight, but the warp was mostly moving straight up over the front beam of the loom and the bottles kept falling off the loops attaching them to the warp bouts.  It took me longer to beam this warp than to wind it and thread it! LOL

So, due to the errors in beaming, I encountered some loose threads as I approached the end of the 2nd towel.  I had some unweaving to do, then some weighting of individual ends, then some careful weaving with my ski shuttle turned on end to prevent further errors.   Still, these towels were a pretty fast weave due to their very short length.

I still need to hem and wash them - can't wait to see the finished towels.
