PIGMENTS – GETTING DOWN AND DIRTY! This fast paced program will cover how to produce your own pigments for use on natural fibers, along with several methods for application. The morning will be spent in lecture format as we cover how to make pigments from the dirt under your feet, as well as from vegetable and insect dyes. We'll delve into rice paste resist, clamp resist, stamping, and shibori. An abundance of samples will be presented to fire up your imagination. The afternoon will be spent in hands-on activities. As time allows, this will include dyeing paste resisted silk and working with clamp-dye techniques and direct painting. Participants will take home a DVD of all the information covered in class, including action video clips.
