Some more 3-d inspiration: look at fellow weavolutionary Susie Taylor and her "crane wife" series! There are more pictures and descriptions the process on her website.
I like the look, but would not want to try to "copy" - so I started playing with different length paper pieces.
Hre is the paper model I like best, so far:
(needed some stiffish paper, didn't have any white)
These bands are relatiely longer than what Susie used, folded a bit differently. I think maybe thefolds should be stitched - either just at the top or the along the whole "spines". Sampling would be in order, but I will sample my other idea first (warps wound)
