Introductions

Tap, tap.. is this thing on??

Let's do some intros, I'll go first-- although it looks like Orion has already begun come to think of it. Ahem.

So, I find myself increasingly drawn to non-yarn, after doing 'normal' weaving for some time.   I did some straw weaving in Sweden summer of 08.  There's actually a pretty strong old tradition of that there. Found some beautiful weaving someone else had done with blueberry sticks. That was cool. And lately I've been playing with weaving with wire.  I have a roll of plastic yarn that's going to get on the RH loom at some point. I weave linen mostly on a 4 shaft CB Glimåkra, but got a rigid heddle Emilia a few months ago. It so small and has almost no loom waste, sets up in a few hours-- so it's great for experiments-- since there's so little invested in it. I'll get some pictures up at some point.  I included overtwisted yarns in this group-- but considered putting those in a 'Distortions' group along with collapse weave and felted shibori-- but decided not to spread it too thin at first. That may still happen, or someone else may do it first.  What else-- oh there's a cone of Habu silk wrapped steel and one of that-steel- that's-almos-too-fine-to-see in the stash too. At any rate, I look forward to seeing what else people have and will come up with.

Ingamarie,

There are a few comments if you look in Groups for Wire, sticks and straw. They just don't seem to be connected to the forum. Confusing... Or perhaps I'm just the one confused?

Oh wow....  I think the writing screen finally opened!  LOL!!!  I have been trying off and on since last night... rebooted the machine... everything and it just would not load.

So, anyway!!!  LOL!!!  I kinda stumbled into the forum for this group, I'm confused too since I didn't realize there were TWO places to leave messages for the group.  I left a message when I joined yesterday or the day before, but left it on the group page.

So I guess I can talk a little more here now...   Back in the searly seventies I used to sell natural decor stuff at the street festivals and at that time I was doing a lot of art weaving.  I wove wire and rags, grasses and feathers, paper and bark... mostly wall hangings woven within the forks of tree branches but sometimes I'd do softer, fabric type pieces.   I'm excited to think that art weaving is perhaps enjoying a bit of a revival and I'm happy to find others experimenting!

I'm a traditional feltmaker who decided to try her hand at spinning since I was buried in wool anyway.   I made myself a couple of hand spindles, decided i needed to learn wheel spinning....  now I had yarn so decided to learn how to knit and then crochet a bit...  then I was browsing the internet one day and discovered TRIANGLE LOOMS!!!!   Continuous weave!  I was hooked...  I found myself rekindling a love for weaving after all these years!   I still have a few small looms I've saved "forever"... small "toy" looms actually but I've recently pulled them out of storage and dusted them off to use in the near future for some art weaves...  just LITTLE projects...  I love quick little projects.  They suit my ADD attention span.  :-)

We are working on organizing the Groups and Forums so people can see both at the same time. It should be up and running early next week. The goal is to have people join the group (parent) and put comments in the forum (offspring).

Thanks for your patience while we make improvements.
