Wet Finishing

I bought a cone of yarn from a friend who had labeled it silk.  It is a thick yarn, about 1/8 inch.  I am making a scarf and then material.  Please tell me the best way to wet finish.  Thanks.

For silk yarn I use warm water to scour, agitate a little bit, rinse, then give the fabric a very hard press to flatten the fabric and enhance the sheen of the yarn.

Cheers,
