Spinning New Year's Eve

I realize for some of our folks it is already New Year's Eve or close to it but. . .  For the past couple of years I have participated in a New Year's Eve Spin Along. We all spin in our own homes and share photos on the computer of what we are spinning, drinks and snacks we might be enjoying and the pajamas we are spinning in! Was wondering if anyone here was also planning on spinning the New Year in?

After 20+ years of declaring I'm not a spinner I'm considering taking on spinning silk. Let me interject that I can spin, I just don't. But I'm wondering if my antique flax wheel would be appropriate for silk? It sure doesn't work for wool and I've not tried anything else on it. Thanks and happy new year!

Endorph, what a great idea! We went to the spa yesterday, so I was too relaxed to spin when we got back.

RAPweaver, tell us a bit more about your flax wheel. What is the tension device?

get much spinning done - was comforting freaked out dogs. They do not like fireworks and my neighbors started shooting them off at 5pm - Really? So was not a relaxing evening. But I did get some done.  Wroking through an art batt and getting an interesting thick, thin yarn. This is a merino / silk mix.

RAPweaver can you post a photo? I wonder if your wheel is like the one we have in the musuem collections. Maybe we should start a new thread for your question? Erica, can you do that for us?

I did end up spinning New Year's Eve after all.  The roads are still torn up from the floods, and we didn't want to brave them (and the drunks) and go into town to celebrate.  I only stayed up till 10 PM, though.

I spun ingeo (corn).  It wanted to go fine, so a 3 oz skein has 420 yards of 2 ply yarn.  I started the day before between sessions of weaving my white-on-white rug, and wanted to have all my prepared fiber spun up by the end of the month.  Now back to fleeces.
