Handweavers Guild of Boulder sale

I couldn't be in Colorado this fall, but I would like to know how the HGB sale went. Were people buying as much as in previous years?  I lived in Boulder and was active in the sale in 1988-1990. For some years after that, I flew back with lots of luggage and stayed with a friend during the sale. Other years, I have driven from western CO. This year I am in the Washington D.C. area and the luggage regulations for airlines are not what they used to be. However, I still hope to live in Colorado full-time in maybe 2 or 3 years.

Was it great?

Do you like the location?

thanks!  Bonnie Inouye

Hi Bonnie

I'm happy with the sale. It's hard for me to judge if there was more "stuff" then last year. we could have used more tables so that's a plus. It seemed to me that we had more "art" hanging this year and the show case was great. Sorry, I didn't record who the artists were, I'm lucky when I remember what I did in the morning!

I have no idea what the final sales figures are but the numbers were up from last year when I did my shifts so that's encouraging.

The location is ok, It's the Boulder Fairgrounds which is a big cavernous building with some overhead lighting and concrete floors. I don't have much to compare it to other then the "Recycle Santa Fe" show which is in a slightly smaller space with poor lighting. I know little about what alternative there are that won't cost a lot more money. I't about 35 miles from my house which is drivable so I can't complain.

I can say that this years committees and set up people did a great job and the Showcase was outstanding! Both in it's content and it's display. I think I said hat already but it bears repeating.

There is so much talent in this group that I'm in awe whenever I see and touch their pieces. I love working the show and meeting the customers and talking to the members.

How was the sale this year? I found the listing with dates on the HGB website (Handweavers Guild of Boulder). It used to run for two weekends and the weekdays in between, but I think it was not as long this year. Still longer than most guild sales. Has the poor economy had an impact on sales?

I hope somebody here can report back to us!

This was my first HGB sale, I only put in four scarves, sold one.  We had a big snow fall on the opening day, so I think that day was a bit slow (that was the day I worked), but I think it went well.

Thanks, Jem! I never saw a "new" notice with this group but maybe nobody is watching groups these days. Glad I checked back today.

The Boulder guild usually shares all the sale information with guild members. Eventually you will know the total sales figures and how that compares with previous years. One year when I lived in Boulder we had an amazingly strong wind for a couple of days. That discourages people from going out, too.

I loved the show and tell aspects of that sale. So many items to see and feel! There is nothing like it in the DC area, but I should be moving back to Colorado in about two years. I hope so!

Thanks for posting this! Good luck to all. I hope the weather is fine and sales are strong.

I am still waiting for my husband to decide when he wants to retire from university teaching. He will continue with his research at the Rocky Mountain Biological Laboratory near Crested Butte every summer. We were in Colorado this fall, too, from October 1-17. But no permanent move yet.
