Rag rugs on a PDL

I would like to try my hand at weaving some rag rugs, and the most suitable loom I have access to is a 48" PDL.  I am sure this is not a typical use for this loom, but I am wondering if anyone out there has tried it anyway.  I have two concerns from the start:

- Narrow sheds, possibly too narrow for a rag shuttle.  Is there any way to adjust the size of the shed?  I couldn't find it in the manual!

- High enough tension.  The loom has very consistent, even tension, but I am not sure what to do to increase it as far as I would like.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

I weave rag rugs but do it on a countermarche Glimakra standard so don't know how to answer your question. It's a very good question and I know we have lots of members with AVL looms. They may not belong to this group.
