Adjusting sectional hoops on a WDL?

Hi everyone,

The sectional hoops on my 24-shaft, 24" AVL Workshop Dobby Loom do not line up precisely; one of them is out of line with the others by 1/16-1/8".

(1) is this going to be a problem when winding on?  I think yes, but would like other opinions.  Earlier I tried warping with the warping wheel and found it very difficult to wind on evenly while staying within the sectional dividers, but as it was my second or third attempt with the warping wheel, and it was a very long warp (20 yards), I'm not sure if it was me or the loom or something else entirely.

(2) if so, what's the best way to correct it?  I was thinking of filling the three mounting holes (that hold the beam to the core) with putty and very very carefully redrilling the hole, but with a hand drill I don't know if I can get the corrected hole close enough to "true".

Ideas?

You might try purchasing a replacement part(s) for your sectional beam from AVL (When I received my AVL WDL several of the holes that the sectional hoops fit into were chipped. I requested that AVL send a replacement part, I was concerned that yarn might catch on the chips, and they did).

If the holes are chipped what about just drilling them out and going up a size in the wire that makes up the hoop.  Maybe you can find out from AVL the gauge wire they use to make the hoop and "ooch" up a size in the wire gauge.  The yarn won't notice.....Deb
