Hey everyone....I know a lot of people have never woven with chenille, have had disasters, are afraid or reluctant to try etc.....let's start some discussion about what keeps you from weaving with chenille, what questions you have about it and how to overcome any difficulties......

OK - it's up to all of you to ask questions!

HI Gwen....polyester chenille is an entirely different animal than rayon or cotton.  Since polyester does not shrink you do not have the same issues as with rayon or cotton.  If the chenille can fit through the slots and holes of your rigid heddle you can certainly weave with it.  Whether or not to use a bulky yarn, particularly in chenille, for doubleweave on a rigid heddle loom I cannot tell you....I guess you can try and see if it works.

Hi, I am a fairly new weaver, 4shaft. I found a gem at a resale shop of indigo colored chenille. Here is the label, may I assume the RC stands for rayon chenille?

I have been scanning this thread for my problem and have not found it. I am weaving a scarf in rayon chenille that I got as a bargain basement kit. The warp is sett at 15 epi - 2,1,2,1...in a 10-dent reed. Rather than putting the weft (same rayon chenille as the warp) on bobbins, I am using a small rag rug shuttle. Everything was going fine, if a bit slow so I sped up a bit and did not futz with the edges. Since then, and I do not know whether it is even related to my speeding up, the warp threads are starting to twist. This started with the last warp on the right then spread to the left and now several warps in the center have started to twist. I am at a loss as how to deal with this. Any thoughts?

HI KBrardin-leahy....I wouldn't worry about it.  Chenille appears to twist on the loom....the pile yarns are held in the core via twist, so they will seem to twist down the length of the thread.  As long as they are not breaking just keep weaving.  Wet finishing will pull the pile to the front and back surface of the cloth and the item will be fine when completed.

Thanks for the reassurance -- I'll soldier on!
