"Pinweaving", or what looks like a very simple form of tapestry, is one of Threads' featured articles this week.  Take a look: http://www.threadsmagazine.com/item/11225/create-intricate-fabric-with-pin-weaving

Basically you set up a warp using pins to hold the warp threads as they turn, weave it roughly in tapestry fashion, and then iron it to fusible interfacing to stabilize it.  Neat idea, and not a bad idea for those thrums!

Threads has had a lot of articles on weaving over the years.  Go to their index and put in weaving as the key word:

There are several good, simple books on pin weaving, including:

The Fine Art of Pin-Weaving by Donna Rhodes (1996)

Beads and Threads by Diane Fitzgerald (1993)
