Hey all,

We're currently planning our honeymoon (mid-June next year), and the U.S. Virgin Islands have come up as a possible compromise between my desire for adventure (preferably fiber-related) and my fiance's desire for a nice relaxing experience. (Me: happiest bumping along a dirt road somewhere in Ghana, in an ancient VW minivan packed to the gills with passengers and with a cow (I kid you not!) mooing in the trunk, heading to an obscure backwater village on a vague rumor of indigo dyers and an old cotton handspinner.  Him: "Can't we just relax on the beach in Hawaii?")

Anyway, I'm wondering whether there are any weaving-related sights to see, either in the U.S. Virgin Islands or elsewhere in the Caribbean?  I'm mostly interested in the U.S. Virgin Islands at this point but could retarget to some other English-speaking area if there's interesting fiber stuff afoot.

Thoughts?

whoa, that sounds like my marriage......good luck with that!  We cross country ski together but I go my own way on my weaving journeys.  He makes up for that by being a fantastic hunter/gather when we are out and about and noticing fiber related shops.  You can do a lot of inspiring color studies in the Caribbean to inspire future dyepots and color palettes. Take some watercolors or color pencils to capture the colors of your trip.  Deb Mc

you have a lifetime ahead to meld your interests and figure out which ones to enjoy on your own and which you can share.  time apart pursuing your own "thing" is just as important as the things you do together.  This is your honeymoon!  spend it getting to know the "one person" you two have become and finding some new adventures!

And, yeah, Deb has an excellent suggestion...cameras and paint/pencils.   I'm sure you know by now, that some things "percolate" in your imagination and pop into creative activities later!

By the way: Has anybody tried the "watercolour pencils?"  I bought a set from Dick Blick last year and my New Year's "art" resolution is to really get into them.  First tries with them were very satisfying!

Right now, I am just lying around whining about the sub-freezing temps outside!!!!

Oh, sure.  I wasn't planning on spending all my time on fiber pursuits, but we both know (from past experience traveling together) that if I don't stay busy, I'll go stir-crazy in short order.  (Me on the beach: twitch uncontrollably unless my hands are busy!)

We also know that, left to his own devices, he'll do virtually nothing and then regret it later.  He doesn't particularly mind indulging me in my fiber pursuits, and it gets him up and out of the house.  So I'm hoping to find something of fiber interest.  We do plan to get more "together time" - snorkeling, hiking, etc.  I'm just looking to add fiber stuff to the mix!

I played very briefly with watercolor pencils and found them to be fairly fun.  But I don't find drawing very satisfying, so I didn't stick with it, and finally donated all my art supplies, since they'd been sitting around for years.
