First attempt in Woven Shibori was following the instructions in Catherine Ellis's book on the subject. Understanding the technique, I dared going for the permanent pleats.  

For the weft I used polyester yarn. After steaming I got the following results:

Lovely!  How long did you steam your scarf?   Did you use a regular steamer or something like a pressure cooker? How wide was it on the loom and after wash?  Is the scarf warp cotton?   My next shibory project will be with chenille.  Warp and weft.

I put the scarf in a regular cooking steamer with the lid on for about 20 minutes. The warp is cotton and the weft is polyester. For the shibori pattern I used a thick polyester 3ply thread, one that is used for sewing shoes. I wanted to make sure the thread would not break when pulling. Because this thread was rather thick it left small holes in the fabric after steaming. This gives a nice lacey result in the scalf. Before steaming the width of the scarf was 50cm wide. When it came out of the steamer it turned out to be only about 12cm wide.  I'm curious about your Shibory chenille project. Please show us a photo once finished.

Finally finished my first project.  Given to my sister for Christmas as a tied up recently dyed bundle and we began untieing Christmas Eve. 

This is lovely!  Unfortunately, I couldn't see it very well so... I clicked and dragged your images to my desktop and then couble clicked on them to open them in Preview mode (on my Mac) and then I could zoom in!  

I am so inspired to try woven shibori for myself!  Thanks so much for sharing!

I'm new to the group, and would like to show a picture of the work done by one of my weaving classes.  I teach three levels of classes at an art center, and two of the classes have completed their first experiments with woven shibori.

Hi there

I signed up for this forum a while back, but have not posted.  It just so happens that I have a lovely Shibori project on my loom as I type.  I started out by painting the  silk and bamboo warp with Pro MX dyes.  It is going to be a plain weave, but then I will draw the shibori weft threads.  I will then do more warp painting.  This project is for making samples for a study group that I am in.  I am actually ahead of schedule on it!  Here is a picture of part of my 9 yard warp.

Finally finished the second woven shibori scarf. I love this technique, but it is certainly time consuming!

That is lovely Evelyn!  Have you posted the projects in your person Projects section so we can see all the details?  I would love to feature this in one of our FB posts.  We pick something to feature on the Weavolution fan page in Facebook almost every day.  We usually choose a unique project from the Projects page or a news item of note.

Thanks Claudia!  I have the basics posted for this second scarf, and more info about the same warp on the first scarf.  I have now posted photos of the finished scarf in my projects.
