Hi all,

I'm contemplating winding up something like 100 100g skeins of silk yarn, and not looking forward to it!  I'd like to replace the spinning wheel I'm currently using for skeining with an electric skeinwinder.  Primarily I need a skeinwinder that can wind a fairly precise amount of yardage and/or weight, mostly in fine yarns.  I've currently got my eye on the Crazy Monkey triple electric skeinwinder with counter ( http://www.crazymonkeycreations.com/Winders/ElectricSkeinWinder.html ) - wondering if anyone else owns a Crazy Monkey electric skeinwinder (or any electric skeinwinder) and can comment on it?

Thanks,

Tien

 Did you check with Habu.  She sometimes brings in specialized equipment upon request. regards  Deb Mc

I have only had experience with this kind of electric skein winder.

skeinwinder

It is a pretty simple piece of equipment, and the arms fold down when not in use. I live in a pretty remote place but still  there is a woolen mill about 2hrs from here that has one and I'd just arrange to go there and wind the skeins. I'd pay them to use theirs but they have offered.  I don't know how many skeins you'd have to wind to justify buying your own.

All the textile mills here in US are going out of business and you can buy used equipment.  Look at this;

ZWEIGLE Denier Reel, manual / electric, counter.

This might be cheaper.  Be sure to ask what kind of electric service (110 or 220v, #cycles)it uses.
