How did this happen? Where did November go? I am going to get some weaving in this month come heck or high water, or holidays and parties and other interuptions. Weave on all!

on my tapestry loom this morning.  I had an area that just was not working out right, so out it came.  I really do not care for working backwards - LOL!

I use a cordless drill for my bobbin winder.  I had a set of chopsticks that go from square to tapered round.   The square end goes in the chu and both bobbins and pirns fit on the other end.  The only drawback I have found is that AVL has a really cool pirn winding guide that I cannot use on this set up, need another hand to hold the guide.  A friend has one and says it is wonderful.  Sometimes my pirns end up too fat.

On another note, my pretty 4-shaft Kessenich loom went to a new home today.  It was hard to let go but I had to get rid of something - I would like to get the Tissart up in the loft so a floor loom had to go <sigh>.  It was harder to let it go than I thought it would be, its been there almost from the start of my weaving journey.

I am starting on my 4th towel. I went to the back of the loom to retrieve a piece of packing paper, and was a bit surprised to find what I consider a lot of loom lint from this cottolin warp. (This much accumulated after weaving between 2.5 and 3 yards of warp.) I laid a piece of white paper down to track what is produced between now and the end of the 5.5 yard warp. (The tape shows what was on the carpet below the paper to this point.)

Something to consider if you are doing long yardage, have allergies or asthma.

Has anyone else tracked the amount of loom lint from various materials/suppliers?

I find cotton, for the size I use, is worst than wool for lint. Mostly what falls from wool under the loom  is bits of plant material, but some wool around the reed. But, I wind cotton yardage on my tension box and that sure has a lot of cotton lint by the time spools are wound then transferred to the warp roller. None of it bothers me allergy wise, I get the vaccum out every warp once complete and sometimes before. By then house flies need to be vaccumed up to. Trade ya house flies for lint. LOL ;)

Nice Erica, I've been peaking in on the samples WAL and it looks like you've been working hard! Theresasc , I can't tell you how many tapestries I've unwoven, you just hope you don't have to unweave too far, right? It's always worth it though when you get it right. Now I'm working on a fiddleback chair that eerily looks like a cow's skull, LOL it's creepy, every time I sit down it gives me a jolt! Sally, The last time I used cottolin, I had the worst lint. I didn't measure it, but there were handfuls! I clean the floor after every project and this was by far the worst I've seen. When you look at the strand of cottolin , as I recall, it doesn't look tightly plied, is that true? ( my stash is all in boxes)

Some yarns are terrible. I keep a dust buster handy and after every weaving session I vacuum. I also have an air filter going but if I was really committed I would wear a dust mask. I watched the whole of "North and South" and they had some amazing depictions of the lint that was thrown off in the mill, a perpetual snow. Stupid impossible love interest with the protagonist and the mill owner but neat vignettes of a spinning frame in action. Someday a mill tour to England, Ireland, Massachusetts ...

Seems with this current blanket I have backed up about a half dozen times, a whole pirn. Keep going the wrong way on the turns.

Honestly, I can drive pretty good. But brings a laugh, when I recall recently (2007) since the 4 lane was completed by here. Seen several old timers at different instances that would go past the exits and turn right around and go back the wrong way. The trouble is, it can be miles and miles before another exit. Who the h is going to go 10 miles or more to turn around on another cloverleaf? :D LOL Actually, not thinking too clearly and probably not realizing that there are U turn areas for emergency vehicles. Not suppose to turn there, but they do, so be hard to loose in court, sign or not. ;)

Starting the 5th and last towel! I think I'll knock off early as I need to do some New Year's Eve prep. I will certainly finish this towel warp tomorrow. (famous last words...)

La La, it's some 1/4 inch "all thread" which we had on hand for another project. It is a long, bolt threaded rod. There is a nut at the bottom to keep the bobbin away from the spinning parts of the drill, and a wing nut up top to snug up the fit so that the bobbin won't spin around freely, but winds the yarn instead. I created a "project" on my profile with more info.

I like the chopstick idea!

Look at how busy y'all have been!  I'm still working on a warp of scarves for a local motorcycle club, 2 1/2 down, 1 1/2 to go.  I'm hoping the guys will like the patterns.  I'll post them once they're done.

I'll definitely be weaving tomorrow, as I'm a bit tired of all the college bowl games on t.v.  (Can you believe there are almost 30 of them???)

I use a hand drill as a bobbin winder also; much cheaper than a "real" one.

Happy New Year!!
